Journey Group Leaders

If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care— then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.

Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself.

Philippians 2:1-5

One of the most important things we do at Discovery is to provide space for people to regularly connect with people each other and Jesus throughout the week. We mimic God's open-armed, risky hospitality by welcoming others into our homes, time, and attention. Healing the broken relationships is ironically only possibly by investing in relationships with broken people.

As followers of Jesus, we're called to be pastors. You too. Not just because you're a leader, but you do have a significant opportunity in this position to love others like Jesus would. We want to equip and empower you to get better and better at that.

Journey Group Schedule 2019

  • Engage Something New - 4 Weeks (9/15 - 10/6)
Using our recommended list or RNM channels create a plan that enables you to explore important Biblical ideas as a group and on a daily basis.

  • Relentless Introduction - 6 Weeks (10/13 - 11/17)
As we enter an exciting new season in the life of our church, we want to provide some conversation starters surrounding the messages on Sunday. I will have this for you by early October.

Rooted’s Legacy
As we transition out of our first Rooted season we want our groups to remain impacted by those 7 rhythms.

  • Daily Devotions
Choose studies and reading plans that help keep everyone in tune with God’s presence daily.

  • Prayer Experience
This was a surprisingly refreshing experience for many of us. The Fall makes doing this outdoor way easier whether you go to Cranberry Park or North Park. Consider doing this again, maybe with special attention on praying for each other’s families, the people in your neighborhood, an issue in our city, your own calling within your career, the people of El Salvador or Japan, or even the government leaders at large.

  • Serve our Community
We’ve always encouraged groups to serve once a year or semester, but I’d like to see this become more of a priority. Plan something this year with an eye toward a regular experience for your group. What if you could do something monthly or quarterly together? Where would it be? What would you do? Don't hesitate to ask me questions about opportunities like this.

Meal Train

One of the simplist and most effective ways to serve someone through a major life event, crisis, or challenge is to organize meal for the family. Not only does it provide for their most immediate needs, it also gives individuals an opportunity to potentially connect upon delivery.

Christian Counseling Collaborative

Journey Groups can be a place that people finally get real and open up about what's going on in their lives. Your encouragement, acceptance, truth, and listening ear will go a long way in helping most people through difficult seasons. However, sometimes we need a little more help.

We love counselling at Discovery. If you find yourself journeying with someone that needs a little more care, you can (1) send them our way or (2) refer them to this excellent organization. This is an intake number and website. They just need to follow the prompts and this organization will connect them with a phenomenal counsellor.
